Europe's Fantastic Five: what the EU talent partnerships mean for data and AI freelancers
Welcome back after the summer! Before the holidays, we talked about how Europe needs talent. Now Europe is putting a new structure in place to connect its labour market with skilled professionals from outside the EU. Let's look at what is happening, and what it means for freelancers who are already here.
The EU Talent Pool
Europe is developing a new EU Talent Pool. Its aim is to help European employers facing labour shortages find skilled professionals from outside the EU. The platform is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027.
The "Fantastic Five"
Alongside the Talent Pool, the EU has set up talent partnerships with five countries:
Bangladesh
Pakistan
Morocco
Tunisia
Egypt
I call them, with a smile, Europe's Fantastic Five.
These partnerships are designed to develop skills, support training and create more regular and structured pathways for labour mobility between these countries and Europe. ICT is already named as a sector of common interest in the partnerships with Bangladesh, Pakistan, Tunisia and Egypt.
Europe has skills too
The reasoning is simple. European companies have skills shortages. International talent has skills. The new European talent system can help connect them. Those are not my words; they are written in black and white.
But Europe has skills as well. I am not against hiring outside Europe. I am pro-Europe, and I believe companies can find a lot of what they need right here, if the talent is visible.
