What is VirtualMasst?
VirtualMasst, in short vMasst is a digital workspace that empowers independent freelancers and consultants across Europe and beyond to showcase their skills. It is a professional space where you, as an independent freelancer, can present your expertise and connect with forward-thinking companies, SMEs, individuals, and startups to offer your services. Independent freelancers or consultants maintain complete autonomy over their work and engagements. vMasst does not assign, match, or manage jobs, but ensures a transparent and dynamic space for all users.
How do we approach hiring?
vMasst platform offers two flexible ways to hire or work with an independent freelancer or consultant:

Is there a commission fee on my earnings?
For details about any applicable fees, please refer to our General Terms of Use where all pricing and usage policies are clearly outlined.

Please read our Term of Use, but for a recup, work commences only once you, as an independent freelancer, have accepted the offer and the hiring party has funded for the mission/project, with funds secured, payouts are released upon confirmation by the hiring party that the job has been completed. This structure ensures verified engagement, security, on time payment and accountability for both freelancers and enterprises.
It is extremely important never to accept contracts or payments outside the vMasst platform if you are a registered user. Doing so bypasses our escrow system and eliminates all protections. Moreover, since you already pay a subscription, it is in your best interest to maximise its value by working within the platform. Accepting work outside vMasst is at your own risk, especially if there is no secured payment in place. In such cases, VirtualMasst cannot guarantee payment.
Please review the penalties outlined in our Terms of Use if we discover:
(i) You are contacting and hiring the registered candidates outside the platform if you're a registered company or user.
(ii) You are a registered independent freelancer negotiating outside the platform.

What types of working arrangements can I have with freelancers?
You can choose from several working arrangements depending on your project requirements and operational setup. If you're open to collaborating with independent freelancers across borders or prefer local professionals for in-person work, vMasst accommodates both.
Remote work: this arrangement allows freelancers to contribute from any location. It's well-suited for businesses seeking flexibility, specialised skills, or support beyond their immediate area.
On-site engagements: If your business has a physical office, you can connect with freelancers in your region who are open to working on-site. This is ideal for roles that benefit from direct collaboration or access to in-house resources.
Hybrid arrangements: a combination of remote and in-person work, suitable when proximity allows. Hybrid setups work well for businesses that value occasional face-to-face interaction while maintaining flexibility.
One-time projects are best for short-term assignments with clearly defined outcomes. This option is efficient for businesses needing focused input without long-term commitment.
Ongoing or long-term collaborations: are recommended for sustained support or evolving projects. This arrangement fosters continuity and deeper integration with your team.
How do I pay freelancers?
All payments are made upfront through our escrow-like structure, powered by Stripe. Enterprises must fund the full project—or each milestone—before any work begins. This eliminates late payments and protects Independent freelancers from unpaid work. Funds are held and released by Stripe, a regulated payment institution. VirtualMasst does not hold or control funds at any point.
Once you select a freelancer and both parties agree to the terms (hourly or fixed rate), and your own contract signed; you’ll be required to fund the mission upfront. The funds are held safely in escrow until the work is completed and approved.
Only then is the payment released to the freelancer.
Key points:
-
You do not pay the freelancer directly.
-
You fund the mission via the platform using a valid payment method and receive a proforma invoice
-
All transactions are securely handled through our licensed financial partner and fully transparent.
-
For full payment procedures, including refunds and processing times, refer to our Terms of Use
What if I'm not satisfied with the work?
If you're dissatisfied with the outcome of a mission, we encourage both parties to first resolve the issue through direct, respectful communication. Clients should document specific concerns—such as missed deliverables, delays, or quality issues—and share them with the freelancer to allow for correction before milestone approval.
If no resolution is reached and the milestone remains unapproved, the client may:
Request a refund (partial or full), depending on the progress made and the nature of the issue
Reassign the task to another freelancer at their discretion
Refunds are not automatic. Each request is reviewed by VirtualMasst on a case-by-case basis. As outlined in our Terms of Use, we reserve the right to determine refund eligibility and amount after reviewing the context, communication history, and supporting materials from both parties.
⚠️ Important Notes:
-
Funds are secured held by our financial regulated payment institution partner. VirtualMasst does not hold or control funds.
-
In case of a dispute, funds remain in escrow until both parties reach an agreement.
-
If no agreement is reached within three (3) months after the freelancer has completed or stopped their services, the funds will be released to the Enterprise—unless an advance payment was agreed, in which case the advance is paid to the freelancer.
-
Once a milestone is approved, the funds are released and cannot be reversed.
-
VirtualMasst is not liable for any arrangements or outcomes that occur outside the platform.
-
Identity verification and AML checks are performed by Stripe in accordance with EU regulations. VirtualMasst does not conduct these checks directly.
Our role is to uphold platform integrity and protect freelancers’ rights while ensuring fair use for all parties.

Before any work starts, the Client pre-funds the agreed Mission or Project amount (including VAT where applicable). No.

Escrow is a secure payment mechanism where project or milestone funds are deposited in advance and held by a regulated third‑party payment service provider. Neither the platform, Client nor the Independent freelancer or consultant can access the money until the agreed work is completed. VirtualMasst never holds or controls these funds.
Upfront funding is required to protect both sides of the collaboration. For Independent freelancers or consultants, it guarantees that the Client has the financial capacity and genuine intention to pay for the work, ensuring they are paid on time once the deliverables are approved. For Clients, the funds remain safely locked until they confirm that the work meets the agreed requirements. This structure reduces payment delays, eliminate fake jobs or scams, and eliminates the need to send reminders for payment or follow‑ups.

Independent freelancers or consultants are always the sole legal suppliers of the services they perform. VirtualMasst does not provide services, does not employ freelancers on behalf of clients, and does not act as a reseller or principal; last but not least does not hire on behalf of clients nor negotiate contract for the independent freelancers or consultants.

vMasst only charges the platform and administrative fees owed by the Independent freelancer or consultant and the hiring company for the use of the platform services, in accordance with the applicable Terms of Use.
Does VirtualMasst own the deliverables?
No.
Intellectual property rights in deliverables are determined directly between the Client and the Independent freelancer or consultant. VirtualMasst does not own or control any deliverables.
What is the difference between a pro-forma invoice and a final invoice?
A pro-forma invoice is issued before payment and serves solely as a prepayment request to fund escrow.
It is not a fiscal document, does not constitute an invoice for tax purposes, and does not trigger VAT.
A final invoice is issued after the project or milestone is completed. This invoice is the official accounting and tax document.
What happens after the project is completed?
Final invoice (after completion)
Once the mission, project, or relevant milestone has been completed, the Independent freelancer or consultant issues the final invoice in strict conformity with the invoice details communicated by vMasst. The release of escrowed funds occurs only after all of the following conditions are met:
-
the Client confirms that the mission, project, or relevant milestones have been completed;
-
the Client confirms that the final invoice issued by the Independent freelancer or consultant has been received and is correct;
-
the Client authorises the release of the “Amount to Receive”, which represents the amount to be released to the Independent freelancer or consultant after deduction of the applicable administrative and platform fees owed by the Independent freelancer or consultant, in accordance with the platform procedures and the Terms of Use.
As a client, do I receive an invoice?
Yes.
Upon completion of the relevant milestone or project :
-
a final tax invoice is issued by the independent freelancer or consultant, as the sole legal supplier of the services and is fully responsible for VAT reporting and tax compliance.
-
Where applicable, final invoices are created, transmitted via the PEPPOL network and retained for accounting and audit purposes.
Can the final invoice exceed the funded amount?
No.
The Independent freelancer or consultant shall issue the final invoice strictly in accordance with the invoice details provided by vMasst. The invoiced amount shall not be increased, reduced, or otherwise modified. The final invoice shall reflect the “Amount to Receive”, as indicated on the platform and defined in the platform's Terms of Use.

Milestones released between the 1st and 15th are paid on the 30th of the same month.
-
Milestones released between the 16th and the end of the month are paid on the 15th of the following month.
