The EU Legal Gateway in India: should freelancers in Europe worry?

Oct 21
3 min read

Europe is opening its doors wider. In my last video, I talked about the five countries in the EU talent partnerships. Today there is one more country in the conversation: India.

What was announced

At the opening of the new gateway between India and Europe, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke about an agreement on mobility. Europe will make it easier for students, researchers, seasonal workers and highly skilled workers to move to Europe.

She also announced the first EU Legal Gateway Office in India. It will be a one-stop hub to support Indian talent moving to Europe, in line with the needs and policies of the EU member states.

India has many highly skilled ICT professionals, and some of them will compete for the same projects as freelancers in Europe. So the real question is not whether to fear the competition. It is how we make sure the talent already in Europe can be seen.

A challenge to European companies

Many companies say they cannot find the skilled people they need. My answer is simple: show us what you are looking for.

  • Post your job or your project on VirtualMasst.

  • Tell freelancers exactly which skills you need.

  • Describe the problem you want to solve.

Whether you are in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Germany or the Netherlands, put your need where professionals across Europe can see it. When the need is visible, talent can respond.

A message to freelancers in Europe

If you are looking for work, don't wait for the market to come and find you. Make yourself visible today.

  • Build your profile.

  • Show your work and your portfolio.

  • Show your experience.

Companies are not looking for a nice photo. They want to see your skills and what you can deliver. You don't need to compete with everyone arriving from abroad. You need to be easy to find for the companies looking for exactly what you offer.

Work in Europe is changing

Companies are becoming more international. Remote and virtual work is now part of everyday business, and Europe is more and more connected to talent from outside its borders. You can be part of this too.

So instead of asking who will take our opportunities, let's ask a better question: how do we create more opportunities for the people already living and working in Europe?

  • How does a freelancer in Portugal compete for a project in Germany?

  • How does a designer in Poland work with a company in France?

  • How does a developer in Belgium work with a business in Spain?

The same way professionals from India or Tunisia will: by being visible to the companies that need them.

Why we are building VirtualMasst

That is the Europe we want to see: connected. VirtualMasst is a European platform that connects freelancers and consultants with companies. We are building a strong European professional community, a place where freelancers can be discovered, companies can find skilled people, and opportunities across Europe are visible to everyone.

Europe has 27 countries and many languages. We want the platform to be easy for everyone to use, and that is part of what we are building next.
