What Drives Productivity?
Productivity isn't about where you sit but what you do and how you think. Studies have shown that motivation, goal setting, and a clear mind have far more impact on productivity than physical objects. Consider J.K. Rowling, who wrote much of Harry Potter in a local café, or Mark Zuckerberg, who famously conducted meetings on walks; I don't know if he still does! Their success wasn't chair-dependent but driven by their ideas, ambition, and persistence. #Productivity
Personal Touch -PRODUCTIVITY BEYOND THE CHAIR
I've experienced my most productive moments in the most unlikely places: on a busy train, at a kitchen table, or on a park bench. It's less about the physical space and more about my mental space.
How did I devise the idea of becoming a virtual assistant?
I was cooking—you know, those meals that take ages to cook. Yes, I was cooking my famous Pondu for the connoisseur, or Casava leaves for you. Only those who tasted it know what I'm talking about 😊 #Pondu.
So, while my pondu was simmering and I was adding my ingredients, my best friend called me to help him with his document. My reaction at first was common: I'm in the kitchen and can't help! I was not joking.
So he literally screamed and used his usual lovely treats, "It's a question of life and death"! Please help me, or I may lose my job!
So I told him to Teams or Zoom me, and I'll have a look. So I put my PC on my Sink, and guess what, with my nife and oignon in my hand, I was reading the Excel file he was sharing—and of course, we figured out that a few of his formulas were not correct, and the problem solved!
The point here is not about the scene or how we solved the issue; it's about being able to work in any circumstance at any place—if it were in the past years when the technology was not at its best, with no direct connectivity, I would just have told him to wait until I'm in the office, well settled, and have a look at his document! Does this ring a bell to you?
By all means, don't understand me in the wrong way. I am not promoting leaving the desk and the ergonomic chair! Investing in a nice chair and table is better if you know you're productive in a cosy office. Yes, a table. I, for example, also enjoy working on a standing desk while working home or in the office; do you know those tables where you can sit or stand up to circulate blood? Yes, that one is my favour. Sure, this can also be an element that boosts your energy, focus, and productivity.
Practical Tips
So, how can we foster productivity irrespective of our physical workspace? Here are a few tips:
Embrace Flexibility -> Change your scenery, sometimes, a new location can spark creativity.
Working from home -> is also a way to spark creativity, as virtual assistant, I can confirm:-).
Set Clear Goals -> Know what you need to achieve and stay focused on those goals.
Cultivate a Productivity Mindset -> Practice mindfulness or meditation to keep your mind clear and focused.
At the end of the day, it's not about the chair or the desk. It's about your mindset, your goals, and how you approach your work. By shifting our focus from material objects to internal productivity drivers, we can unlock our true potential.
Remember, productivity's secret lies within you, not beneath you!
